Welcome to S.G. Therapy and Mediation Services. You may just be browsing, but if you are experiencing emotional or relational stressors, you are at the right place. Self-awareness and taking the steps towards self-care—putting the invisible mask on yourself—is the scariest and first step in nurturing your soul. In the absence of emotional safety and security, we tend to instinctually put up protective barriers or become combative. Therefore, therapy is a process of shedding maladaptive coping strategies and reactive ways of interacting. Through the courageous journey of an affirmative, collaborative, and transparent therapeutic relationship, I hope to honor your intersecting stories and lived experiences, be an ally in helping you to be your authentic self, and discover new ways of relating. As we step into and towards the circle of change, let us inhale courage and exhale fear.
Sherel Griffiths (She/Her/Hers), LCSW, AFM, CFT, Psychotherapist.
As a BIPOC clinician, I hold a Master of Social Work (2006) and a Master of Science (Applied) in Couple and Family Therapy (2020) degrees from McGill University. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) certificate from the Center for Mindfulness, University of Massachusetts (UMASS) Memorial Health. EMDRIA-approved Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and Progressive Counting (PC) training from the Trauma Institute & Child Trauma Institute Inc.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), an Accredited Family Mediator (AFM), and an Individual, Couple, and Family Therapist (CFT), governed by the OTSTCFQ licensed board. Registered psychotherapist permit with the OPQ. Registered member of the OCSWSSW for virtual social worker practice. I am an Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and a Progressive Counting (PC) trained therapist.
I have had the privilege of working with and advocating for clients of various ages, ethnic, cultural, and racialized communities, and identity groups during my 18 years and counting as a mental health clinician in the public health and social services network. I bring trauma-informed, race-informed, intersectional care to helping individuals and couples experiencing distressing emotions and interpersonal challenges.
Through couple and family therapy training, an internship at the McGill University Sexual Identity Centre (MUSIC), and being a member of the transgender research group, I have developed a growing competency and keen interest in working with 2SLGBTQIA+ racialized, immigrant clients and couples.
As an inclusive and equity-minded person/psychotherapist, I vow to provide you with a safe holding space, to be your ally, help you grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life.
“Trauma is not what happens to you.
Trauma is what happens inside you,
as a result of what happens to you.”
